Current Characters: N/A, also apping Yuki (IDOLiSH7)
Character: Dice Arisugawa
Canon: Hypnosis Mic, canon point is post Catch Us If You Can
Age: 20
Background Information: The wiki has info up through the previous drama track. So, what happens in Catch Us If You Can? Dice and Gentaro firmly commit to staying by Ramuda's side and fighting with him. They clash with an "unbeatable" enemy from Chuuoku and make it out with their lives... and Dice hands over a manuscript "written" by Gentaro that contains the Party of Words' dirtiest secrets to his mother, Otome. He leverages this situation to get the pursuit of Fling Posse dropped, and to secure their entry into the next DRB.
Personality:
The first thing people may note about Dice's personality is that he's a risk-taker and thrill-seeker. In fact, he bet his very life to get the Hypnosis Microphone that brought him to Ramuda's attention. Life is boring to him without high risks and crazy potential for returns, which sees him often broke from gambling until he's completely spent. He definitely doesn't quit when he's ahead. When he's not rapping for his life, he's usually found gambling away whatever worldly possessions he might possibly have come into, up to and including his clothing. Not his Mic, though, which is noted to be fortunate...
...because the next thing people might note is that Dice isn't the sharpest pencil in the box. He's not really that stupid or ignorant, but rather a bit too laser-focused on things that are fun and appealing to him to always see the bigger picture. If it doesn't give him a thrill, he doesn't care to think about it. Due to this, he's actually frequently pranked by Gentaro, who uses his theatrical voices and penchant for lies to string Dice along numerous times. This, combined with the fact that Dice takes luck very seriously, means Gentaro knows just how to get to him easiest. In that way, he proves a source of entertainment for both Ramuda and Gentaro.
And why not be entertained? He's easy to annoy. In the Fling Posse vs Matenrou "Know Your Enemy" drama track, while Fling Posse approaches the battle grounds, Gentaro eggs Ramuda on as he acts childish and annoying, much to Dice's consternation. Ramuda gets a kick out of that, and Dice's reactions just spur him on. The two of them teaming up to tease Dice isn't uncommon, a show of their closeness as a team.
Fling Posse's dynamic has changed over the course of canon, largely due to Dice's forthright nature and belligerent affection. While at first they were all hiding secrets from each other--Gentaro's identity, Ramuda's very existence, and Dice's past--they are slowly revealing things that are necessary. And it all started because Dice had the AUDACITY to call them friends. He makes no secret of how much he likes his posse, and now they've all basically sworn to have each other's backs. With Gentaro, there's a warmth and familiarity shared, despite their knowledge of each other being pretty one-sided. Gentaro remains a mystery! But with Ramuda it's jovial and jubilant, friendly ribbing that's gone from a tactic to put Dice off to a show of affection. And Dice was the first to basically claim loyalty to Fling Posse as a unit, rather than just to having fun for a little while. A "fling" no more!
Living on the edge, Dice hates straight-laced, boring, conformist people like Matenrou's Doppo, who he hardly misses an opportunity to take to task when they encounter each other. He berates Doppo for apologizing excessively and lowering his head, and thinks Doppo's attempts to keep the peace by standing down make him weak and annoying. It's a true personality clash; Dice never shows that kind of disdain for anyone else to the degree he does Doppo. He favors chance over habit and structure, can't stand conforming to any societal norms. People who live too inside the boring rules irritate him. It's worth noting he's awfully rough around the behavioral edges, too, frequently cursing or talking trash. This is likely due to his mother's strict policies at least in part.
Almost to the point of seeming superstitious, Dice believes in and strongly holds to the concept of luck. He avoids things that bring bad luck where he can, and keeps his own personal "lucky" dice on him at all times. A very easy dig at Dice that Gentaro often employs is telling the man something is good or bad luck, and then stating that it's (as always) a lie. But perhaps moreso than any of Gentaro's other lies, Dice buys right into the ones about luck. He's quick to cite luck when something goes right or wrong, favoring that over skill in every area except rap.
As for his rap, Dice is flexible, talented, and driven. The thrill of the battle brings out the best in him, and his lyrics are firmly rooted in things he knows, likes, and even pointedly dislikes. He doesn't mind slinging a diss at someone he thinks deserves it. His style is forward and aggressive, very self-referential, with lyrics often involving money, gambling, and--perhaps surprisingly--word play and foreign phrases. Okay, so that's not surprising, considering he was a rich kid with everything growing up. He also really like turkey and can play violin and piano, so there's more to him than just a loud mouth with a gambling problem!
Abilities & Inventory: Well, his POWERFUL abilities are all based on his use of his Hypnosis Mic. His effectiveness changes randomly based on the results of the slot machine in his Hypnosis Speaker. Hypnosis Mics can... basically mess with the central nervous system and the juicy brain bits that trigger reactions. He can technically bring someone to their knees if he gets a direct hit. The sounds from rapping into the mic are amplified and controlled through the Hypnosis Speaker, which appears behind the rapper when in use. I would nerf the overall efficacy of the whole system if required! But considering it works on the brain it might be weirdly effective here? Canon is only recently at all forthcoming on how the mics actually work, so a like "can't kill people with it" and maybe a % efficacy reduction would be good!
He's coming in with the clothes on his back and his mic!
Suitability & Plans: So... interesting thing about Dice? He doesn't have, like, anything in canon. He ran away from his family, he couch surfs and sleeps wherever, all he has is his mic and some clothes and occasionally money to gamble with. So, with that being said, I think it'd be cool to have him in a place where he can bend the environment in certain ways to his own liking? I had him turning things fake-gold on the TDM, which I thought was cute because of his gambling obsession. I think it'd be neat for him to figure out how to play with things like probabilities and whatnot in a more 3-dimensional space through environmental influencing and trying to control dream content! It'd probably suit him a lot.
While he is EXTREMELY loyal to his posse, Dice could befriend a wall if it wasn't being a jerk to him, so he won't have any problems making CR. I tend to get weirdly silly, unexpected CR with him so I won't even try to make a guess other than to say it will be legendarily odd CR. He also loves taking risks, so put a challenge in front of him (or offer him some kind of bet?) and he'll be on board.
Test Drive Sample: Sample 1, Sample 2, Sample 3, Sample 4
Questions: Due to RL time crunch (the timing was awful as I staff for a convention happening THIS WEEKEND) I have pretty limited TDM content. However, I'm fully capable of tagging a lot with him and pretty effortlessly! He's a social bean!
