CHARACTERS IN-GAME: Wataru Hibiki, Gaku Yaotome

CHARACTER
NAME: Dice (Daisu) Arisugawa
CANON: Hypnosis Microphone
CANON POINT: Post-Me Against the World
AGE: 20
BACKGROUND: (NOTE: The vast majority of canon that exists for HypMic is in the drama tracks! You can find a lot of translations here, up to and including where I'm taking Dice from. A brief summary of relevant history follows! A good place to start is this "premise" section, which outlines VERY briefly the history and state of the world, which I will not be covering.)

Prior to meeting Ramuda and Gentaro and joining Fling Posse, Dice is presumably a bit of a vagrant. He's earliest shown being treated to wilderness food by Riou, and borrowing money from him. He's scouted, in a sense, by Ramuda, who tracks him down while he's gambling. Ramuda clearly knows more than we do about this guy, but he recruits him after a small rap battle, and they head back to Ramuda's place to wait for Gentaro, who joins shortly thereafter. Fling Posse forms, and they eventually go to Chuuoku to face Matenrou in the second round of the battle season. Fling Posse loses, but they stay in Chuuoku; Ramuda acts increasingly questionably, and Gentaro suspects something is going on by the time it's all over. Dice, generally oblivious, has no such reservations... And now, two new divisions are coming into play.

PERSONALITY:
The first thing people may note about Dice's personality is that he's a risk-taker and thrill-seeker. In fact, he bet his very life to get the Hypnosis Microphone that brought him to Ramuda's attention. Life is boring to him without high risks and crazy potential for returns, which sees him often broke from gambling until he's completely spent. He definitely doesn't quit when he's ahead. When he's not rapping for his life, he's usually found gambling away whatever worldly possessions he might possibly have come into, up to and including his clothing. Not his Mic, though, which is noted to be fortunate...

...because the next thing people might note is that Dice isn't the sharpest pencil in the box. He's not stupid or ignorant, but rather a bit too laser-focused on things that are fun and appealing to him to always see the bigger picture. If it doesn't give him a thrill, he doesn't care to think about it. Due to this, he's actually frequently pranked by Gentaro, who uses his theatrical voices and penchant for lies to string Dice along numerous times. This, combined with the fact that Dice takes luck very seriously, means Gentaro knows just how to get to him easiest. In that way, he proves a source of entertainment for both Ramuda and Gentaro.

And why not be entertained? He's easy to annoy. In the Fling Posse vs Matenrou "Know Your Enemy" drama track, while Fling Posse approaches the battle grounds, Gentaro eggs Ramuda on as he acts childish and annoying, much to Dice's consternation. Ramuda gets a kick out of that, and Dice's reactions just spur him on. The two of them teaming up to tease Dice isn't uncommon, but can be read as both a show of their closeness as a team, and as them all keeping a generous distance from each other with humor as a unifying thread.

Fling Posse's dynamic is largely a mysterious mess. It's actually unclear much of the time just how the Fling Posse dynamic really goes, in part because Ramuda is so clearly hiding something. Gentaro goes out of his way to keep Dice oblivious, or so it seems, changing the subject or sending him off when something suspicious is going to be brought up. Because of that, Dice is a bit naive and uninformed about Ramuda's possible motives. He seems to just be going along with the flow, looking for a new thrill and something to hold his attention. He's closer to Gentaro, in a sense, even though Ramuda does let him crash at his place from time to time. Gentaro, however, seems to do the vast majority of the harassment Dice endures, frequently dragging him into his lies or stringing him along with them. While one might think that wouldn't make them close, it's quite the opposite. In fact, when Gentaro starts to lose his cool after being insulted by Matenrou's Hifumi, Dice stands steadfastly by his side and defends him. Dice isn't afraid to ask Gentaro and Ramuda for money, and will gladly lean on invites of a comfortable place to relax or some good food, rather than being homeless and scavenging.

Living on the edge, Dice hates straight-laced, boring, conformist people like Matenrou's Doppo, who he hardly misses an opportunity to take to task when they encounter each other. He berates Doppo for apologizing excessively and lowering his head, and thinks Doppo's attempts to keep the peace by standing down make him weak and annoying. It's a true personality clash; Dice never shows that kind of disdain for anyone else to the degree he does Doppo. He favors chance over habit and structure, can't stand conforming to any societal norms. People who live too inside the boring rules irritate him. It's worth noting he's awfully rough around the behavioral edges, too, frequently cursing or talking trash.

Almost to the point of seeming superstitious, Dice believes in and strongly holds to the concept of luck. He avoids things that bring bad luck where he can, and keeps his own personal "lucky" dice on him at all times. A very easy dig at Dice that Gentaro often employs is telling the man something is good or bad luck, and then stating that it's (as always) a lie. But perhaps moreso than any of Gentaro's other lies, Dice buys right into the ones about luck. He's quick to cite luck when something goes right or wrong, favoring that over skill in every area except rap.

As for his rap, Dice is flexible, talented, and driven. The thrill of the battle brings out the best in him, and his lyrics are firmly rooted in things he knows, likes, and even pointedly dislikes. He doesn't mind slinging a diss at someone he thinks deserves it. His style is forward and aggressive, very self-referential, with lyrics often involving money, gambling, and--perhaps surprisingly--word play and foreign phrases. What does that say about Dice? We'll have to stay tuned to find out...

POWERS/ABILITIES: Dice possesses a Hypnosis Microphone, and any abilities and powers he has stems from the use of it. A Hypnosis Mic can be used to attack with words, disturbing parts of the brain to the point that the right attack can even cause severe injury or death. When using a HypMic, a plain microphone changes into something special and suited to the user, and floating emblematic speakers appear behind them. Dice's mic has a nice dollar sign on it, and his speakers? A slot machine.

INVENTORY: His regular clothes, his lucky dice, and his Hypnosis Microphone. He's Dice, he doesn't have anything else.

MOONBLESSING: Cordis. NYA!
