( it took gentaro roughly two months of being in this place to admit to himself that if he had to indulge in the whims of this world, he would want it to be dice. it took him four months to act on that, and just over five to realize that the love he wrote about in books and spun tales for the sake of amusing those weaker than him was exactly how he felt about dice. it took one month after finally admitting he wanted exclusivity to tell dice he loved him and then another month after that to impulsively — and oh, didn’t dice bring out that side of him, the side he had locked away in favor of playing a good agent and information gatherer — demand he marry him. so it only made sense that, in keeping with it, one month after that he’d return the favor.
ever since dice returned, he had a nice stash of chroma. gentaro’s life was mostly spent being frugal so even when he did start generating chroma thanks to the abundance of moonlacing he did with his teammate, he didn’t spend too much. mostly just gave it to dice to gamble or to get them food.
the proposal was the hard part. he had completely ruined whatever plans dice may or may not have come up with. and really, he didn’t want to show up dice — having dice have a god damn ring in the first place, to have independently thought about it, was more than a phantom deserved. while his self worth wasn’t the worst, it wasn’t the best, either, and a no name like him, “gentaro yumeno”, just didn’t count himself as the type to ever have someone see the sun and stars when they looked at him. but that all changed. chaotically and so gradually, like falling. maybe that’s where it got its name.
so maybe it shouldn’t be something fancy. it should be something meaningful.
